Dare pranced into the nightclub with a huge grin on her face. She'd work an hour, then return home to review what kind of damage she had caused outside of her home. Whatever, Luckless had deserved it completely. Plus, she'd have to pay for it later anyway, Fail was going to be pissed! God, her allergies were acting up, already. By the time she got home, she'd be retching so hard she wouldn't touch blood candy for a week.
That's how it all started tonight, wasn't it? Lucky had given her some red food, blood candy, and they fought over her beliefs about her derivation. What a stupid way to end it all. Who cared, though? All she was to him was a freaky bitch, and he was just a bastard piece of trailer trash that had gotten a hold of her heartstrings and snapped them as easily as he could have snapped a rubber band. Nothing to him, and everything, life itself, to her.
Personally, she thought she'd dealt with his twisted crime in an orderly fashion.
"Dare!" The vampress felt arms around her waist a millisecond after the screeching cry. She turned to see her workplace pal, Chanceri. Her black eye-liner was streaked down her cheeks, enhancing the vampire look everyone at Reflections was trying to perfect. Secreted from most of the public, Reflections Nightclub was a vampire-masquerade. At least, it was a masque to the visitors. Every employee was a vampire, or at least thought they were and really believed it.
"What's going on, Chancy?" the young vampire girl buried her face into Dare's chest, shaking and sobbing.
"Oberon broke up with me!" Chanceri bawled. Dare glanced up at the above mentioned waitress behind the Blood Bar. They didn't serve real blood here, just Motts and thickened red Fanta.
"Why would she do that, Chance?" The little vampire just shook her head and cried even harder. She wasn't that little, per ce, she was just the youngest, newest, vamp at the club. She was tall for her age, seventeen and five feet, ten inches. Chanceri had the nicest, blue-blackest hair Dare had ever seen in person, or in magazines and movies. Dark violet eyes completed the dark, blood-sucker look. All of it was natural, like Dares red irises, but Dare had her hair coloured the way it was.
Dare lead Chanceri to the back room of Reflections. She drew the curtain behind them. Oberon had always been a total bitch anyway, and Chance deserved better. Dare intended to let her know that. Oberon was a six-foot-3-inches blonde bartender who had dropped out of high school in her senior year and was now twenty four. Dare highly doubted this was the career she had had in mind as a little girl, to be handing out complementary plastic fangs in a Vamp Club and serving melted cherry popsicles in a cup to masquerade vampires. But, Hell, whatever floats your boat, bitch.
"Chance..."she began. Chanceri stopped crying suddenly and sniffed Dares shirt. She slowly leaned over the light-haired vampire, pressing her against the wall. Chanceri moved her mouth extremely close to Dares.
"You were drinking tonight, Dare..." Chanceri breathed. Dare gulped. They both knew it was highly illegal for any of the Reflections employees to take blood from a human. Punishment included having your job snatched from you and your Reflections membership revoked. Possibly the worst of all, an eviction from your home and a restraining order to be used by all other vampires in the city. Complete isolation.
"Oh, God, Chanceri... You can't tell! Life isn't worth it if you do!" Dare felt a tear slip from her own eye. When she'd bitten Luckless, she hadn't been thinking straight... like she had been possessed, by what, she didn't know.
"I won't, Dare, but only if you help me do something...?"
Dare sobbed and nodded her head franticly. "Anything, Chanceri, anything you need. What do you need me to do?" Chanceri leaned in just a little more and kissed Dare on the mouth.
"That was all, Dare. I just needed the confidence to do this." With that, Chanceri stalked out of the small room, and stood in front of Oberon's Blood Bar. She clenched her fists and sucked in her breath.
"Oberon Slivus, YOU ARE A DIRTY WHORE AND I DO NOT LOVE YOU." Chance screamed as loud as possible. When she was done, she smiled cutely and curtseyed to the stunned Reflections visitors.
Dare was laughing as she hooked arms with Chanceri and walked out of the club for the night.
"So who was it?" Chancy asked as they headed for Tèsen park, the biggest and darkest vampire hang out in the entire city of Bertraneous. Perhaps even in their country, Zychetto. Dare ignored her friends question and stopped to lay on the blue-green grass. She gazed up at the starry sky.
"Have you ever wondered what it would be like, Chanceri, if we weren't born in this time era? What if we were in the 3000's or something?"
Chanceri nodded her head. "There wouldn't be so many precautions about the environment, and people would be much more understanding of beings such as us, I think." Dare looked at her. "Everyone has to be the same now," Chance continued, "look in our text books at school, peoples skin were different colours, and Zychetto used to have laws saying that everyone had rights. Not just elders and elected officials."
Dare brushed back a bit of Chanceri's hair, wondering in amazement about what she had just said. "I never knew you were so interested in stuff like that..." Chanceri leaned in and let her lips brush Dare's very softly, Dare allowed it. She forgot everything that had happened. About Luckless, about Fail, about Oberon, rent, money, even blood. All it was was her and Chanceri, here, under the stars. They were in the year 3007 now, where life was fair. Not stuck in the 7500's like all the fools they'd left behind.
"You learn something new everyday..." Chance whispered quietly as she pulled away. Dare laid back down to look up again. Chanceri did the same, snuggling up to Dare in the damp grass. They were silent.
"Do you believe in Heaven and Hell?"
Dare was taken aback by this sudden outburst. She lay there and thought it over for what seemed like forever to Chanceri. "It's hard not to. I mean, the elders don't give us much choice in what to believe, y'know? It's a depressing thought, because I know I've already got a first class ticket to the down under, but how could that rumour keep up through over seven-thousand years if there wasn't a hint of truth to it?"
She glanced over at Chanceri. The little vampire rubbed her eyes and yawned, showing her fangs to the earth. And yet, she wasn't. It was as if no one else existed but Dare. If only it could stay that way. Dare drew Chance into another long kiss...
**PLITZ! PLITZ!**
Dare's plitzer went off. She turned her golden shirt collar around to reveal the small, quarter-sized clip that was flashing yellow and purple lights. Purple meant Fail. Yellow meant urgent.
"Listen, Fail, if this is about Luckless..."
Fail yelped as soon as Dare answered the Plitz, "Dare! They're here! You have to get over here, now!" Dare shook her head, trying to make some sense out of what Fail was saying. She couldn't even guess at it.
"They're here, Dare! They're both right here at our apartment!"
Dare absentmindedly stroked Chanceri's cheek, and softly kissed her before standing up. Who? Who's at our place? Are you okay?"
"Your parents, Dare, Your parents are here!"
